The history of professionalisation. Hungary in the 19th-20th centuries in a European context

OTKA research group

In the coming years, our research group will be working on the history of professions, their role in society, the competition for the market, and thus their professionalisation. In Hungary, the issue of vocations became a focus of academic interest only relatively late, in the 1990s and 2000s. From the very beginning, historical research on the issue has sought to combine the methods of sociology and history: the most significant results have in common the increased prevalence of a social-historical perspective. In addition to an interdisciplinary approach, we consider it important to present the history of professions on an international comparative historical basis.

The research team is led by:

Dr. habil. Márkus KELLER, Associate Professor, Head of Department (Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Comparative Historical Sociology)
